The Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University seeks an outstanding
postdoctoral or
advanced pre-PhD candidate to work on automated facial expression analysis
and synthesis.
The position is a collaboration with behavioral scientists in the Department
of Psychology at
University of Pittsburgh under the direction of Professor Jeffrey Cohn.

The postdoc will join an interdisciplinary and interinstitutional team with
expertise in computer
vision, signal processing, psychiatry, pediatrics, neuroscience, and
behavioral science. They will
have access to large, well-annotated databases of spontaneous behavior in
both typical and
clinical samples of adults, children, and infants in variety of
interpersonal contexts. Clinical
conditions include psychopathology (especially depression and trauma),
pediatric disorders
(e.g., craniofacial microsomia), and physical pain. Depending on specific
projects, collaborating
sites include University of Miami, University of Binghamton, University of
Colorado, Rensselaer
Polytechnic University, Brown University, University of Oregon, and Baylor
Medical School.
Background or experience in computer vision and machine learning with
proficiency in Facial
Action Coding System, Matlab, C++, Python, and CAFFE/Tensorflow is
desirable. Depending on
candidate interests, projects may include multi-label action unit detection
and intensity
estimation, domain transfer, expression transfer, measurement of asymmetry,
modeling of
interpersonal influence, and real time implementation on mobile platforms.
