The 16th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (ICFHR 2018)
will be held August 5-8, 2018 in Niagara Falls (USA) at the Niagara Falls Conference & Event Center.
ICFHR is the flagship conference for handwriting recognition research and applications.
The conference brings together experts from academia and industry to share their experiences and
advance research in all aspects of handwriting recognition technologies.
This promises to be an excellent meeting. We have a strong program that includes state-of-the-art
work in handwriting recognition techniques and applications, which will take place just a few minutes
by foot from Niagara Falls. The welcome reception the on August 5th will be held at the
Top of the Falls restaurant, situated directly beside the falls themselves
(https://www.niagarafallsstatepark.com/attractions-and-tours/top-of-the-falls).
Sponsors for the conference include MyScript, a world leader in handwriting recognition technologies.

Conference Details
Our keynote speakers are Kevin Knight (https://viterbi.usc.edu/directory/faculty/Knight/Kevin) and
Gregory R. Crane (http://www.dh.uni-leipzig.de/wo/gregory-crane), leading experts in NLP and the
Digital Humanities, respectively.
The conference program is now online: http://icfhr2018.org/program.html, including sessions on
word and graphics spotting/extraction in handwritten documents and videos, document segmentation,
signature/writer verification, and deep learning and data augmentation techniques for handwriting
recognition tasks.
We will have three interesting tutorials on deep learning, word spotting in document images (esp. historical
documents) and forensic document examination: http://icfhr2018.org/tutorial-list.html. These tutorials
will take place on August 5th, before the main conference.
