SECOND CALL FOR PARTICIPATION:

IEEE WHC 2019 (IEEE WORLD HAPTICS CONFERENCE 2019, THE 8TH JOINT
EUROHAPTICS CONFERENCE AND IEEE HAPTICS SYMPOSIUM)

sola city Conference Center

Chiyoda, Tokyo, JAPAN

July 9-12, 2019

http://worldhaptics2019.org/

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, you are invited to participate
in IEEE WHC 2019 to be held in Tokyo, JAPAN July 9-12, 2019. In
recent years, we have witnessed the rapid evolution of haptics
research. Fundamental understanding of touch perception, technologies
to interface via haptics, and commercial applications are all
burgeoning. IEEE World Haptics is the premier conference for
reporting research results and demonstrating novel capabilities in the
field of haptics. There are many ways to contribute to the conference
by submitting original full-length technical papers, late-breaking
work-in-progress papers, hands-on demos, and exhibits to the design
showcase. We are also soliciting proposals for Cross-cutting Challenge
and Workshop Sessions. Corporations are also encouraged to consider
sponsorship opportunities and/or participating by exhibiting
commercial offerings as a means of both supporting this dynamic
community and maintaining visibility within it. For more details,
please check http://www.worldhaptics2019.org/submissioncategories/

TALKS & INTERACTIVE SESSIONS

All technical paper sessions at WHC 2019 will have a new format:
10-minute talks for accepted papers nominated for an award, 3-minute
blitz pitches for all other accepted papers, followed by an
interactive session of 120 minutes for all accepted papers held in the
same session room.

JOURNAL REFERRALS

More than 10% of submissions will be invited to submit an extended,
journal-length version to the IEEE Transactions on Haptics (ToH), in
an expedited process. The invited papers will be selected by the ToH
editorial board, based on WHC reviews and suitability for the journal.

Work in Progress, Hands-on Demo, and Design Showcase

The Work-in-Progress category calls for rapid communications
summarized in 2 pages. The authors will give their presentations in a
poster presentation. The hands-on demo category calls for a short
abstract (approx. 200 words), a short video (within 3 minutes) that
can show the content of the demo, and mock-up images for space
planning. During the conference, the authors will present their
demonstration and a spotlight talk. Design showcase, a newly
established category, calls for diverse activities in the cross region
of design and haptics, such as products, services, entertainment,
education, welfare, and art. Submission materials include a short
abstract and a short video, and accepted works will be exhibited in
the venue.

The authors of work-in-progress, hands-on demo, and design showcase
will retain the copyrights, and materials will not be archived in
IEEEXplore.

TOPICS

The conference welcomes original contributions related to any topics
of haptics. Topics of interest include:

Haptic interface design and control

Tactile displays

Sensors and actuators

Human-computer interaction

Multi-modal systems

Virtual and augmented reality

Haptic rendering and modeling

Embedded haptics

Teleoperation

Shared control and collaboration

SPONSORSHIP & EXHIBITION

be found at:

VENUE & SOCIAL PROGRAMS

IEEE WHC 2019 will be held at the Sola City Conference Center in
Ochanomizu. Due to its proximity to Tokyo Station, Ueno, Suidobashi,
and Akihabara, it is also a convenient base for exploring the wider
area. Tokyo is a historic city that breathes with four hundred years
of tradition, while still being able to continually change and embrace
the future. The Kanda Myojin Shrine and the Mausoleum of Confucius at
Yushima are within walking distance of the venue. In addition, it
takes only 15 minutes to visit the Sensoji Temple with its Thunder
Gate. If you visit Akihabara, a fully-charged electric town sparking
original culture, you can find the cultural home to the diehard fans,
the "otaku", of gaming, manga, and anime. We hope to see you there!
